Oh to be a bareboater..

…not “barebacker” as some of my guests call them inadvertedly…

Always interesting to watch the stream of boats leaving Moorings on the weekend..Apparently loud music is a requirement I have found.

This boat had a new twist on it, they had a bagpiper on the front deck playing the pipes.

Away we go...playing bagpipes

Do you bring that down as carry on? or checked?

Wouldn’t it be more appropriate with a kilt though?

Next boat out of the gate is the green team..

Not unusual for us to see the boats towing their dinghies there..I assume they figure out they should move it when they get out in the waves and the engine pounds up and down on the hull..

Hey, at least they are wondering where it is :)

On the EEK side of things, I spied my husband drilling holes in the boat. He tells me that the engine room needs more ventilation so apparently we are getting a lot more air. I hope he is not a bareboater and knows what he is doing!

And just because, some old pottery pieces I found lately, that are so pretty..

And that is my Sunday. T- 2 hours..then I start heading west! Yippee!!!!

Filed under the “we must need a vacation”…..

My Husband is a super cautious captain.  He likes to have many back up plans before he takes the boat in anywhere. Me, not so much and for those who know me it will be no surprise to you that he thinks about the same thing about my boat driving skills as he does my vehicle driving skills! :)

Bazza at the helm, looking like he needs a vacation

Bazza at the helm, looking like he needs a vacation

Usually, out on charter, about the time the wind kicks up to 30 knots, or we are just going to try and find a place to anchor..every guest starts asking the person at the helm “what island is that?” or “how did you get into this” or “how did you meet”.

Or, that time is chosen for the music to go on full blast. It’s part of charter, you deal with it….Yesterday, we left White Bay on Jost to stop at Foxy’s, Bazza has about ten guests around him asking questions and he is just motoring…He is penned in and directly behind the two masts so even though he is looking, he cannot see the large green channel marker that he is about to hit.

One of the guests says “are you going to hit that green buoy” and he searches around for it and moves around the guests to find it about 8 feet directly in front of him, gives a big handful of wheel to turn the boat so we run over it instead with a trampoline instead of hitting it with a hull.. I thought we had lost a kayak or something off the front with the clunk as it went all the way down underneath one of the wings of the boat…! Lindsey jumped upstairs thinking she had not secured the anchor or something..

We all, Felix, LIndsey, and Kerry were all glad that it was Bazza on the helm then and not one of us as he would have had one solitary word (with THAT look) for any of us..the word is Moronski!

Guess he needs a holiday!

I have been sorting through my camera gear, going to get rid of the D200 Nikon bodies and housing..Make more room for my newer system.. Anyone want to buy it?

Sunset was pretty over Great Thatch…that is it for today, one more day sail to do on Sunday and then I fly on a big plane home to SoCal for a month or so…

The Lion Fisher hunter and his wife…

I’m the wife. And as usual, not that helpful when it comes to aiding my husband. I feed him well though and make him smile so he seems to forgive some of my other, shortcomings..

When I was diving at Salt anchorage last week there were many on “my” coral head…I asked Bazza to come down and shoot them, yesterday.

I don’t how fast these move in, but a couple weeks ago we thought we had shot all but one or two here. Today “we” shot 13. Someone else shot 8 around there and DiveBVI shot 3 the day before. Obviously a little hot spot…

The whole reef dynamics changed once blood went in the water. The fish were swimming very erratically, the barracuda was darting in and out..The eels were aggresively coming out of their hiding holes in anticipation..

The barracuda kept on circling us, leery to get close enough to take a Lion Fish, but you knew he wanted it..

Now onto the helpful part. I asked Bazza where a bag was so I could help him and then I went and found the dry bag. He asked me how I was going to help when I had my camera as well as the bag with me :) Silly man! I was confident I could do both…Won’t  be the first time I was wrong.

He would spear them, put them in the bag, fold over the top and give it to me to hold while he went onto the next one..

That worked for awhile, and then I don’t know quite what happened, but this is the next thing you saw!

I was trying to scream at Baz under water to get his attention cuz we both knew I would just get stung…and shaking his head he had to come back and retrieve all the Lion Fish that were wandering away..

I made sure I held onto it quite tightly after that :)

Then we had to line them up, show the kids, take off the spines, all those things..

interesting rows of teeth on the Lion Fish I would say! We lined them all up, counted them..

I cannot believe how many there are around. I know people are eating them, but it seems like a lot of work to get a small morsel out of a fish! I think I am going to have to wait until they get a bit bigger..

Moral of the story, is if you want someone to take pictures of the Lion Fish, bring me. If you are looking for someone to actually be helpful. Don’t.

Trip He Ho around the Island of Tortola

..I have gotten a bad rap over the years. For some reason, most friends & family are scared to get in a car with me. They say they never know where they are going to end up, what is going to go wrong and what kind of trouble we can get in..

I do have to agree that a vehicle has been the scene of some of my most memorable excursions and the words “road trip” can make my eyes light up!

We decided to go meet Hopper at the airport with a Dark and Stormy and take a few pictures. That was our first mistake.

Yes, open liquor in a vehicle is a no no in most of the first world, but after all, it was for Hopper not for us…

and he looked kind of happy to accept it as well..Off we went around the island to take some pictures. Car loaded with Hopper, Photo gear, groceries we had just bought for charter and the three of us…

Looking pretty good hey? We had some nice pictures…! Even took one of Roadtown.

Then we were somewhere between Cane Garden Bay and Carrot Bay when it all came to a halt!

Uh oh, Bwoke..

Uh oh, Bwoke..

It would not start, no matter how many times Hopper tried to look manly climbing underneath it and wiggling things!

At least we bwoke with liquor!

Uh oh, Bwoke..but with liquor!

And we had a great view…which we enjoyed while we called Bazza in Roadtown and in his voice I could hear the frustration about having to drop everything and take a cab across the island to come rescue me one more time…

You know, Baz and Felix were there about 23 seconds and they wiggled the same cable as Hopper and it started right up! By that time though we had mostly finished a bottle of vodka so it was a good thing we had a chauffeur!

and so ended one more road trip with Kerry..quite a bit later then we expected it too!

Rambling in my mind…killing time….waiting for dinner and bed…

There is no way in hell I can put up another post about how busy I am, how tired I am or whining. I, after all, am the only one who books my charters. What I will say then is 8 down and 2 to go. Those are the ones in a row.

This is what I hope I look like...

But I fear this is about what I look at. And this may be a good depection!

me

me

I have had some days where I don’t want to get out of bed, and other days wondering why I am not up from sunrise to sunset wandering around in the water and on the beaches with my camera in hand. Mostly I dream of curling up on my couch at home with my soft blanky,  large TV and my Pizza Hut app on the phone close at hand…For about a week. THEN I  might find the mall about every day for a massage.

Instead, I am anchored outside Leverick Bay, still hearing the conch blowing contest from the Beans pirate show going on outside. I think perhaps I really COULD do his show by now.

A couple weeks ago one of the men left these for Felix and Bazza. I was SURE it was a joke. I was told that no, it was not a joke, he did not want to take a chance taking them home on the airplane. He was only on the boat for a week. Not sure how much hair he was shaving, or maybe one was his wifes??

razors and creme? Who uses these nowadays??

razors and creme? Who uses these nowadays??

the last couple weeks have surely been wonderful for photo’s, I am half an hour away from uploading the charter video I did from this past week (so they don’t leave until noon tomorrow…, I am, ummm, prepared)

We did manage to stop down to St John where my friend brought me down some real honest to goodness prescription drugs I needed instead of the crap from India that tastes like soap that I have been getting here all winter. That was nice!

I remember her daughter as a tiny little girl coming on the boat a long time ago, now look at her, cover model and looking like she WON’T break the tire swing, unlike some of us..:)

Hell, never mind the tire swing, I would probably break the tree!

I am however, looking forward to dinner tonight. Steak on the BBQ with Fried potatoes….Now if I can just take it to bed with a movie…

Oh, I think I hear the conch blowing contest almost over with…Time to stop rambling here.
