Beach Barbecue..Salt Island, BVI

Yesterday was one of those days, lock the keys in the house, no electricity at the fuel pumps to put diesel in the dive boat, go to Tico’s to get more Johny Walker Blue,  run around all the grocery stores (finally One Mart) trying to find LARGE marshmallows to do s’mores, find wood for a bonfire and then have your husband want YOU to put the boat on the dock downwind in swell and seas while he plays deckhand. It all did not work so well…I am a worse driver in those conditions in a boat then I am a deckhand and I totally suck at deckhand duties, so just ended up yelling at him.

Then found out that I have left my lens inside my port for the underwater camera on the trip across so there was a wonderful black circle he could not get out….

But all is well that ended well, as it was a great night for an evening barbecue, we were invited to dinner on the Yacht and the Caribbean Night BBQ was great with Fried Bananas, Black Beans and Rice, Carrot Salad and yummy barbecued chicken!

Time for me to do a random post..

Mostly so I have something to do with my pictures I think..Plus I am quite bored this afternoon of doing data entry.

Even though the view out my window for doing it is pretty darn good! Getting up to go to the bathroom at 6 AM means I actually get to catch some sunrises. I grab my camera blindly, without any glasses on, and point it outside. Totally forgetting about closing the screen door while I am doing it and letting in, oh about a billion mosquitoes. That promptly bite me. And since they are spraying about every area here for Dengue Fever Mosquito’s, I think of that all the time!

And no, I could not figure out which one I liked best, that is why there is 3 pictures in here…

I have a friend next door. This bird says HELLO to me all the time. He is actually quite cute, although I run when he gets too close to me as I hear he thinks he is friendly, but then likes to bite!

Thought he was hiding from me here!

I had Turtle Doves fighting outside my window yesterday morning as well, and a friendly little Gecko who lives in the house. Quite different then living on the boat! I do not like the large Bush Cockroaches when they come visit though…I can deal with the small ones.

I was waiting for my husband to make room in the back of the SUV last night, so took a few pictures of the flowers for my mother. She likes flowers. I understand they have snow in Victoria (which is why I don’t live in Canada!) we had a perfect night. The palm trees and sky are because I like them.

We made our way down to Nanny Cay on about the worlds worst roads to pick up our friends Rhonda and Cam, and then drove across the island back to East End to hit Red Rock Restaurant for dinner. I wanted to show them the new favorite I had. It was either that or Pusser’s, as the last time I went to Capriccio’s I ran screaming from the amount of mosquito bites I received!

Food is very good here.

If it looks like we had rather a lot of food last night, it could be because we did. Since we only have A/C in the bedroom in town, my cooking skills in the condo amount to warming up nachos in the microwave. Truly. Several times a week. And microwave popcorn. We enjoyed every last morsel!

This is the Bay outside of Penn’s Landing last night. Very flat seas after horrendous winds and seas all week..

I could not resist this. I just about choked when I saw Baz come out of the bedroom with this get up one day this week…I know he is just painting and spraying his boat in the boat yard this week, but holy hell…!

you know you are a redneck when...I would not be seen in public with him!

Sometimes he cares, sometimes not. Going out for dinner last night the only socks he could find that were clean without going out to the boat (or sorting through the clean laundry…go figure) were my colorful anklet socks. He turned his nose up at those and instead wore the frigging compression socks for airplanes that about go up to your thighs rolled down by his ankles! I am not sure who married him….

That about covers my life, finally after more then a month have gotten caught up with updating the info from the Tortola Boat Show into my database. It never ends!

And so ends another afternoon in the British Virgin Islands!

Charlotte Amalie…US Virgin Islands…on Yacht Promenade

..here we have been anchored since Sunday afternoon. Mostly fixing things that broke left and right on the yacht. Promenade must have known that Felix and Chad were off the boat and decided that Bazza and I did not have enough things to do! You think I am kidding, you have to watch my 50 odd year old husband try and pull the anchor by hand when the windlass died. Or how about chip out all the calcified build up in the head lines to the poop holding tank? How about the TV falling off the ceiling at the end of our bed in the night?

Yep, that would be our wonderful glamorous life..TV falling off the ceiling of our berth

I told Chad I hated his boat, funny how quickly I gave possession of it to him once I had had enough…

We have watched large cruise ships come and go all week. One day we had a break water of ships, which made Promenade in the middle of this picture look very tiny (but much more appealing then the cruise ships!)

I must admit they are good photo opportunities. Even with a crappy iphone camera which these were all with….

What would a post be without food? Cam and Rhonda have taken over a brand new boat called Copper Penny. I call it the floating condo on water, I cannot believe how much interior volume there is in these Lagoons. This one is a 56 foot…

They invited us over for dinner last night, very comfortable. However, I think what impressed Bazza the most was Cam’s nice new shiny organized tool bag (does he know how to use them?) If he finds it missing, I know where it will be..Nothing we own tool wise on Promenade looks like this…

I, of course, was most impressed by the wonderful steak dinner that Rhonda fed me…What a treat to not look in the fridge and try and decide what I was going to make for dinner!

Rhondas amazing steak dinner on Copper Penny!

Cuz, you know, in my world, no dinner is not an option… I turned down her pumpkin cheesecake for dessert, being that I am not a big fan of pumpkin…and then I tried some of Bazzas, ate the rest of his, had my own piece and took the reminder of the cheesecake home with me!!! So much for not liking pumpkin..or pumpkin cheesecake anyways!

Cam is sporting a fancy new mustache. I look at him and think we are going to the Calgary Stampede…It is probably for Movember, but on December 1st it has to go Cam! :)

If it is not for Movember it has to go Cam!

And I cannot miss the picture on the front page of the Beacon of Cam “fluffing pillows” They must know his skill level :)

Waiting for parts and “things” to come in the mail, which won’t be happening today on Thanksgiving so a couple days until we can make our way back up to Roadtown, but looking forward to having this view below instead of the cruise ship view again soon..

Filed under the “we must need a vacation”…..

My Husband is a super cautious captain.  He likes to have many back up plans before he takes the boat in anywhere. Me, not so much and for those who know me it will be no surprise to you that he thinks about the same thing about my boat driving skills as he does my vehicle driving skills! :)

Bazza at the helm, looking like he needs a vacation

Bazza at the helm, looking like he needs a vacation

Usually, out on charter, about the time the wind kicks up to 30 knots, or we are just going to try and find a place to anchor..every guest starts asking the person at the helm “what island is that?” or “how did you get into this” or “how did you meet”.

Or, that time is chosen for the music to go on full blast. It’s part of charter, you deal with it….Yesterday, we left White Bay on Jost to stop at Foxy’s, Bazza has about ten guests around him asking questions and he is just motoring…He is penned in and directly behind the two masts so even though he is looking, he cannot see the large green channel marker that he is about to hit.

One of the guests says “are you going to hit that green buoy” and he searches around for it and moves around the guests to find it about 8 feet directly in front of him, gives a big handful of wheel to turn the boat so we run over it instead with a trampoline instead of hitting it with a hull.. I thought we had lost a kayak or something off the front with the clunk as it went all the way down underneath one of the wings of the boat…! Lindsey jumped upstairs thinking she had not secured the anchor or something..

We all, Felix, LIndsey, and Kerry were all glad that it was Bazza on the helm then and not one of us as he would have had one solitary word (with THAT look) for any of us..the word is Moronski!

Guess he needs a holiday!

I have been sorting through my camera gear, going to get rid of the D200 Nikon bodies and housing..Make more room for my newer system.. Anyone want to buy it?

I don’t think I will ever get tired of the blues and greens down here in the islands…..

We were out on our mooring, I was frustrated with the internet and instead of listening to me whine, Bazza moved the boat into Inner Harbour by Buoy Boy.. It did not help that when we were anchored out that there were two very large cruise ships blocking all kinds of internet signals. That’s ok, I am much happier here.

Yes, it did take some jiggling and moving back and forth to get us in there..We are pretty large for the spot, but we could make good use of Buoy Boy to raft up to…
